Tom Curtin

CEO & Founder

Tom Curtin is the Chief Executive of Curtin&Co, the company he founded in 2008. He has worked in property and reputation management for more than 25 years. He is a scientist, but then worked in journalism for more than 15 years where he was an editor and publisher in technical and financial media. In property, Tom worked with the estates division of Thames Water plc and headed their press office. After four years in the nuclear industry, he founded Green Issues Communications in 1998, which became a top 50 PR company, with more than 35 consultants. He sold the company in 2006. Tom is the author of Managing Green Issues (Macmillan 2002, 2007), a definitive text on community relations. On reputation, Tom is a visiting professor at IMD in Switzerland, one the world’s leading business schools. He is the lead author of Managing a Crisis(Macmillan 2005).

Chairman of the Advisory Board

Roger was Chief Executive of The Crown Estate from 2001-2011. He has extensive experience of setting strategic direction and leading change in a public body in a competitive commercial environment. He has worked at Board level (both as executive and non-executive) and with ministers and civil servants and has also managed business operations and driven change in a variety of organisations. Roger is used to working in both commercial and politically sensitive environments and is accustomed to public speaking and dealing with the media. Sector experience: commercial property; financial services regulation; social housing; senior civil service (Whitehall and Westminster). Awarded Companion of the Order of the Bath (CB) in Queen’s Birthday Honours 2009.

Managing Director

Catherine oversees project management and operations to ensure the highest quality of work for our clients. She manages a wide range of strategic projects across the UK which includes a substantial amount of strategic promotion through community consultation, as well as political engagement. She has led the consultation aspects of ground-breaking projects, including the Thame Neighbourhood Plan and the proposal for a new major town centre in Southwark. Catherine has also worked across the Company’s crisis management and PR training courses for senior executives and is the immediate past-Chair of the Chartered Institute of Public Relations’ Construction and Property Special Interest Group (CAPSIG) which sets best practice standards across the industry. catherines@curtinandco.com

Nick Stanton OBE

Director

Nick was the Liberal Democrat Leader of Southwark Council for eight years until May 2010. During his time as leader, Nick oversaw the development of landmark projects including the Shard, One Tower Bridge and the redevelopment of the Aylesbury Estate.   He remained an active councillor, and sat on the Planning Committee until stepping down from the council in 2014.   Nick has a substantial network of national links and he is a well-known figure of authority throughout the party. nicks@curtinandco.com

Steve has over thirty-five years’ experience in corporate public relations and consultancy, where he has a wealth of experience in strategic communications counselling and public affairs advice and media support.   Steve originally worked in local government public relations before transferring to a major City agency’s public affairs team working for a wide range of UK and international clients.   He served as a Liberal Democrat Councillor for twelve years on Hillingdon Borough Council holding positions of Chief Whip and Group Leader and is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Public Relations. stevec@curtinandco.com 020 7399 2295

Paul has a wealth of experience working on projects in London and the South East. Paul has served as an elected member and worked in Local Government in the South East for the last 15 years. Paul stood for Parliament in Basingstoke in 2005 and 2015. Paul previously taught strategy and military history at Kings College, The Defence Academy and is a Doctor of International Politics and Strategic Studies. Deeply involved in community politics, Paul has over 20 years of campaigning experience and understands the importance of working with communities, he understands regeneration and wider masterplanning in a community setting. paulh@curtinandco.com

Martin spent 14 years as a Civil Servant and a long period as a senior Cabinet Member of Cambridgeshire County Council including a short time as Leader where he delivered a number of major projects; not least the development of the Cambridge City Deal. As a District Councillor he was Chairman of the Planning Committee for six years.  In 2010, he stood for Parliament for the Conservative Party in Nottingham North, gaining an 8.7% swing from Labour.  He has also been a regional lead peer for the Local Government Association for a number of years. At Curtin&Co Martin uses his strategic understanding of how planning can benefit communities, which he has built up during a long political career, to work on major sites of up to 10,000 homes, as well as working on smaller applications.

David is an experienced political researcher and campaigner. He worked for the Labour Party at the 2010 General Election at their Central Office before working in Parliament for Andy Slaughter, Shadow Justice Minister and MP for Hammersmith, and Martin Linton, former Labour MP for Battersea. He retains active links within the Labour Party, as well as excellent Parliamentary and Local Government contacts across all parties. David has worked extensively on Curtin&Co’s reputation and crisis management arm coordinating and designing new crisis scenarios and working with clients throughout Europe, North America and Africa.

Andrew is the former MP for High Peak. Having served on three Select Committees and as a Parliamentary Private Secretary in the Department for International Development and Ministry of Defence, he has a deep understanding of the workings of Parliament and central Government. Previously, Andrew spent 12 years on High Peak Council, where he sat on the Planning Committee and chaired the Council’s Development Plan Select Committee, and also ran a successful logistics business across the North West and East Midlands. His blend of public and private sector experience adds real value to our work with developers and communities.

At Curtin&Co, David works on large strategic sites in the south and southeast. David is instrumental finding new and innovative ways to galvanise support for a planning application by local community groups. Prior to Curtin&Co, he co-wrote Young People’s Policy Agenda for the Mayor of London. David is a Conservative Party Campaigner where during the 2010 General Election, he campaigned on the ground in a difficult marginal and delivered a 7.6% swing to Stuart Andrew and the Conservatives after 13 years in the Pudsey, Horsforth and Aireborough constituency. Mark was a Lambeth councillor from 2009-2014, representing Vauxhall and Kennington, an area under intense development pressure. He served as a member of the Strategic Board leading the regeneration of Vauxhall, Nine Elms and Battersea, representing the interests of local residents alongside the Deputy Mayor of London, two council leaders, Transport for London and landowners. He was a member of Lambeth Council's Planning Committee, and has experience representing residents at committee and at a planning inquiry. Mark recently joined Curtin&Co after ten years working in communications roles in the political and charity sectors, including several years as Communications Manager for the Holocaust Memorial Day Trust, a national charity.

Katie is a recent graduate of the University of Leeds with a degree in International Relations. As a civil engineering graduate, Anthony has a passion for planning, construction and politics. Prior to joining Curtin&Co, he previously worked as a Parliamentary Assistant for two prominent Labour MPs. His experience includes working on Dan Jarvis MP’s Child Poverty Private Members Bill and supporting Fiona Onasanya MP. He has worked across the political function, engaging with politicians, community leaders and business stakeholders. As an active campaigner, he has led and participated in both national and local political campaigns for the Labour Party. Currently, he is standing in the local elections to be a Labour Councillor on the Royal Borough of Greenwich Council.
